Labour Market Development Program Youth Programs

Are You...

  • A Métis Youth between the ages of 15-30 (inclusive) years?
  • A resident of Alberta living off settlement?

  • Unemployed, underemployed or about to be unemployed?

  • Complete an action plan leading to employment or a return to school?
  • Be ready, willing and able to undertake and successfully complete your chosen intervention?


To Access Youth Programs
Step 1: Go to your local Employment Assistance Service Centre

  • Register for services with an intake worker
    Complete an employment needs assessment


Step 2: Action Plan Development

  • Together with a case manager identify and research a career goal
  • Develop an action plan to reach your goal with your case manager
  • Access an MNA program or undertake training (if required)
  • Be committed to report changes


Step 3: Case Management

  • Carry out the steps in your action plan with the support from your case manager


Step 4: Follow up, Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Complete your action plan
  • Receive assistance with job search
  • Report the results to your case manager
  • Receive on-going support and follow-up



MÉTIS YOUTH PROGRAMS
Internship Program
This program provides work experience to Métis Youth who are secondary (grade 12) or post-secondary graduates experiencing difficultly making a successful transition into the labour market.

Employers who are willing and able to provide work experience directly related to the youth’s career goal are able to receive a wage subsidy.

Youth interested in the program must register at the closest EAS Centre, and with the assistance of a case manager, locate an appropriate employer.

The employer must complete a youth program application and develop a job description and training plan.

Once approved, the MNA provides financial assistance to the employer for a maximum of 26 weeks depending on the training plan and needs of the employee.

Summer Student Placement
Provides opportunities for Métis Youth returning to school, to gain full-time quality work experience during the summer months.

Wage subsidies are given to employers who provide summer work experience for Métis Youth returning to school.

The employer interested in providing summer work experience to a Métis Youth can forward a job description and youth program application to their closest EAS Centre.

Youth interested in the program must register at the closest EAS Centre, and with the assistance of the case manager, locate an appropriate employer.

Once approved, the MNA may provide financial assistance to a maximum of 16 weeks. The employment must be consecutive weeks during the summer months (from May to August).

Community Connections
Provides work experience, career planning and personal development opportunities through projects that address a specific need in the local community.

The project should meet an existing and identified community need and directly benefit both the community and project participants. Youth must be directly connected to the community throughout the project.

The project must provide an opportunity for participants to gain personal and work related skills such as confidence; a positive attitude toward learning and change; leadership and team work skills; problem solving and decision making practice; goal setting and career planning knowledge.

Youth interested in the program must contact their closest EAS Centre to determine when the Community Connections is planned for in their community.
